The Walk https://www.tbcdadecity.com/2019/05/the-walk/ https://www.tbcdadecity.com/2019/05/the-walk/#comments Fri, 24 May 2019 15:40:57 +0000 https://www.tbcdadecity.com/?p=10204 We are very excited at Temple Baptist Church to announce that on June 2nd we will start a new Sunday School Curriculum in our adult classes! Here’s what it’s all about…

Christian growth is a day-by-day endeavor. The Spirit works in us as we learn God’s Word and make everyday decisions in the light of its truth. “The Walk” explores what the Bible has to say about ten practical areas of life:

  1. The Mind
  2. Biblical Change
  3. A Balanced Walk
  4. The Christian Home
  5. Response to Suffering
  6. Spiritual Gifts
  7. Contentment
  8. Financial Stewardship
  9. Principles of Purity
  10. Worship

While the exact timeframe of this new study is tentative, we anticipate spending between 10-12 months working through “The Walk.” After all, we are walking (not running) through the material.

Gen. 3:16   Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

Gen. 3:17   And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Gen. 12:1   Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Gen. 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Gen. 28:14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

Gen. 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

Rom. 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. 20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Eph. 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Titus 2:11   For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

2Sam. 7:12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. 14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

Psa. 78:1   Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. 2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

Psa. 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Is. 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Is. 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

Hos. 11:1   When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

Amos 9:11   In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: 12 That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.

Mic. 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Zech. 9:9   Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Gal. 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

Heb. 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

Matt. 13:34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: 35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Heb. 7:17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Matt. 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Acts 8:32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: 33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. 34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

Matt. 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

Acts 15:16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: 17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

Matt. 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

Matt. 21:5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.

Answers Bible Curriculum https://www.tbcdadecity.com/2018/05/9804/ Tue, 29 May 2018 15:21:06 +0000 https://www.tbcdadecity.com/?p=9804

Temple Baptist Church is very excited to announce we will be using a new Sunday school curriculum: Answers Bible Curriculum! “ABC” was developed by Answers in Genesis to present the gospel, beginning in Genesis, to all generations; to train believers to know, obey, and defend God’s Word; and to encourage believers to become conformed to the image of Christ.

Overview

The 2009 book Already Gone by Ken Ham and Britt Beemer (and the scientific study on which the book is based) reveals the reasons why young people are leaving the church. In much of the teaching today in our churches, the Bible is disconnected from the real world, and the authority of Scripture is undermined and replaced with secular reasoning using man’s ideas.

The church has failed to teach the Bible as relevant fact. We have, intentionally or unintentionally, taught the Scriptures as nothing but “stories” that relate to spiritual matters but have avoided engaging the challenging questions from the secular world that bombard churched children and adults the other 166 hours of their week. As a result, children are beginning to doubt the Bible—and the gospel message that it presents—as early as elementary school. Many studies confirm that more than 60% of young people leave the church after they graduate from high school.

Answers Bible Curriculum was designed and written to provide answers to the questions and issues that confront youth (and adults) in school, in the media, from friends, at work, etc. It is our hope and prayer that God will be pleased to use this curriculum to instill a lifelong trust in the Bible and in the God who authored it.

Scope & Sequence

Answers Bible Curriculum is a 200-lesson curriculum that covers the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, in chronological fashion. The first 120 lessons survey the Old Testament, and the final 80 lessons survey the New Testament. Where appropriate, lessons include apologetics material confirming the accuracy of the biblical record, as well as historical background and life application.

A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 – Chapter 4 https://www.tbcdadecity.com/2018/03/a-shepherd-looks-at-psalm-23-chapter-4/ Sun, 18 Mar 2018 14:45:34 +0000 https://www.tbcdadecity.com/?p=9679 “He Leadeth Me Beside the Still Waters”

Start each time of study with prayer. Ask God to speak to you personally through this study. Read the whole chapter first then go back and reread it to answer the questions. Some questions may take time, especially the personal ones. It’s ok to take a couple of days before you answer some of them. Use the back of the sheet if you need more room.

Let’s break our title into two parts, the first being, “He Leadeth Me.” Do you allow your Shepherd to lead you? Read the following verses and write out how you can apply them to your life.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Isaiah 48:17

Isaiah 49:10

John 10:27

Now let’s look at “Beside the Still Waters.” I loved the part where Phillip explained the importance of the “Dew in the Morning.” Do you take time, first thing in the morning to get your spiritual nourishment to get you through the day? Read the following scriptures and commit to make them a part of your life.

Psalm 5:1-3

Psalm 55:16-17

Do you recognize that “God shaped void”, that thirst that only God can fulfill? Where do you look to fill that inner thirst?

Do you stop to drink from “dirty pools” that pollute your life as the shepherd is leading you to the pure, still waters? If we are honest with God and ourselves, there might be a few “dirty pools” we need to walk away from. Here are some things that the Lord put on my heart for us all to consider. If the Lord shows you something in these areas that you need to repent of, please write them down and give them to the Lord. Look at each topic below in the light of John 4:13-14.

Activities you participate in:

Places you go:

Things you watch:

Things you listen to:

People you hang with:

Other things the Lord shows you:

A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 – Chapter 3 https://www.tbcdadecity.com/2018/03/a-shepherd-looks-at-psalm-23-chapter-3/ Sun, 04 Mar 2018 15:01:04 +0000 https://www.tbcdadecity.com/?p=9598 “He Maketh Me Lie Down in Green Pastures”

Mr. Keller says it is almost impossible to get sheep to lie down unless four requirements are met. This week we are going to look at the ways to find freedom in those areas of our lives.

  • They need to be free from fear. Is there anything in your life that you want to, “get up and run” from? What is it?

Write out a situation in your life where you have been fearful, but God proved Himself faithful.

How can you apply Psalm 27:1 to your life?

  • They need to be free from friction with others. Have you been hurt by the “pecking order” in Christianity? Write out the situation, then give it to the Lord and let Him heal you.

Do you ever practice the Christian “pecking order” to keep your place? Read Psalm 75:6-7.

As you read this chapter, Mr. Keller spends most of this chapter discussing friction with others. Why do you think he spends so much time on this subject?

Can you think of anyone you know that has hurt people in the body of Christ because they had to be the top sheep? Will you forgive that person if you have been hurt and make the commitment to pray for them?

  • They need to be free from pests. Are there things in your life that irritate or “bug” you? What are they? Will you pray and ask the Lord to give you patience to handle them?

Do you let the Holy Spirit bring quietness, serenity, strength and calmness in the face of frustrations and futility? If not, will you decide now to let Him? He offers this to you, but you have to let Him. What stops you from doing this?

  • They need to be free from hunger. In our Christian walk, the old saying is very true spiritually, “You are what you eat.” Do you spend time feeding on the Word of God or do you feed on the “barren ground” of this world? What changes has the Lord shown you that you need to make in what you fill your life with?

A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 – Chapter 2 https://www.tbcdadecity.com/2018/02/a-shepherd-looks-at-psalm-23-chapter-2/ Mon, 26 Feb 2018 00:56:07 +0000 https://www.tbcdadecity.com/?p=9593 “I Shall Not Want”

Are you “. . . a sheep utterly satisfied with its owner, perfectly content with its lot in life”? If not, please explain.

The dictionary gives the definition of “content” as: satisfied with what one is or has; not wanting more or anything else. What does it mean in your life to be content?

How can you apply these scriptures to your life?

  • Revelation 3:17-
  • Mark 10:21-

Do you find that you struggle between “two masters”? If so, what are the “two masters” in your life and what will you do about it?

Read Matthew 6:24-34. Take time to dwell on this and ask God how you can apply it to your life.

Mr. Keller states in the book, “It is the boss – manager – the Master in people’s lives who makes the difference in their destiny.” Do you agree with that? Why or why not? What is your destiny?

We read the sad story about “Mrs. Gadabout.” She had so much potential, but refused to be content with what her master gave her. Not only did she refuse to be content, but she chose to lead others astray. Is there any part of your life where you are a Mrs. Gadabout? Have you ever led others astray? The Lord can redeem those reckless times in your life. Pray about it and see if you need to talk to that person and make it right.

Read Philippians 4:11-13. Is this the attitude of your heart? Write a prayer out to God, confirming that He is enough and that you will be satisfied with whatever lot in life He gives you.
